Clicking links should open a new tab and not make you leave the feed
Erik_The_Red
This is a thing that is especially annoying on mobile but I have had it happen on desktop too.
You are scrolling down the feed and you misclick something so it takes you off the feed onto another page. Whenever that happens you have to start scrolling from the top of the feed again to take you back to where you were and it is such a pain.
I would much prefer if clicking onto the links would just open a new tab. It would save so much time for me.

I would also vote for not changing default browser behavior like this. Desktops have a middle mouse button to open in new tabs and on mobile browsers there is (generally) a long press to get a menu with "open in tab".

tbh i think the _right_ solution to this is having links to post positions in the feed so when you go back it auto scrolls you to that post. external links should always open in a new tab, but i'd argue that it makes sense for kitsu links to open in the same tab by default.
Erik_The_Red
Matthew Dias: I'm happy as s long as I don't have to start over scrolling from the top when I accidentally click and leave the feed.
Amrit
100% agreed. This is so annoying and needs to be fixed.
Matthew Dias
As far as i can tell links all open in new tabs now? Or is this issue about clicking on kitsu links, such as someone's avatar?
Erik_The_Red
Matthew Dias: Basically clicking anything that would take you off the feed when you were scrolling down the feed. Primarily a thing I hate on mobile. I can be scrolling down the feed and the further down I go the laggier it gets, then I mistakenly tap the screen a little too hard when I meant to scroll and I'm taken off the feed to another page (for example a Kitsu profile, or a group, or something else etc. ). Or I try to like a post on mobile and accidentally click too far to the right of the heart and click on the icon of someone else who liked the post earlier and thereby taken off the feed.
It's just annoying having to start scrolling from the top again when that happens since it doesn't save where I was in the feed.
tennoseremel
Slowkitsu will become slower, lol
Erik_The_Red
tennoseremel: I don't mind if it's slow if it keeps me from leaving the feed accidentally
Redstar
Erik_The_Red: Well that's your opinion, I'm of the opinion that it shouldn't be slowed down just for one person's satisfaction
Erik_The_Red
Redstar: Well it is my opinion and I tried to explain why I thought it should change. I am free to do that and you're as free to voice your view. That is what feedback requests are for.
stepper
tennoseremel: lol what, a function like this won't make it slower.
tennoseremel
stepper: Kitsu renders everything with JS and that is slow. If it rendered the page server side on load and only loaded
updates
with JS it would have been slightly faster.tennoseremel
Slow as in initial load is slow. Which is what’s going to happen when you open a new tab.
ELEX
I don't think this should be default behaviour.
Erik_The_Red
ELEX: Well that's your opinion. I'm of the opinion that it should.
Redstar
ELEX: I completely agree. making it the default behavior because a few people are having issues on mobiles would be annoying for those of us who never have this issue because we never use a phone
Gaily
Why not just click the link with the middle mouse button?
Erik_The_Red
Gaily: Like I wrote, this is primarily an issue for me on mobile. When scrolling down it is easy to accdentally click a link or image and be taken off the feed.

Also search should allow you to open in a new tab or window as it's damn annoying having to leave the page whenever you search for something.

Gemsu
Id say it should do the same for pictures as well cause that is really annoying too
Erik_The_Red
Gemsu: Yeah I was thinking of pictures too. Basically anything you can click that will take you to another page if you click it, should open in a new tab, in my opinion.
